Police in Kogi have given embattled Senator Dino Melaye
an ultimatum to appear before the court
next Wednesday.
Police commissioner in Kogi, Jimoh Moshood, said Dino has yet to respond to invitations by the police over his alleged sponsor of political thugs in the state.
One suspected political thug identified as Saidu had, days ago, accused the lawmaker of giving out assault rifles and money for the thugs to combat his political opponents.
Dino accuses state governor Yahaya Bello of being behind the plot to bring him down.
The police boss has now said failure of Dino to appear in court would leave the police with no option than to issue warrant of arrest against him.
Dino is also facing a recall process from the National Chamber by some members of his constituency.
"If they continue to be evasive and fail to comply with criminal summon issued on them by the Federal High Court, Lokoja to appear on 28th March, 2018 to answer to the criminal charges of Conspiracy and Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Firearms against them, the Force, will obtain Warrant of Arrest for the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye and Mohammed Audu and will definately declare them wanted throughout the country and on Interpol platform for them to be arrested in any country whereever they are sighted and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for continuation of their trial," Moshood said in his statement.
