EFCC Hints At Arresting Fayose

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC) on Sunday hinted that it is dusting off its shelves the case of the integrated poultry project against Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state.
The anti-graft agency disclosed this in a tweet on Sunday, July 15, saying: “The parri is over; The cloak of immunity torn apart, and the staff broken. #Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological Concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon.”

This is coming hours after Dr Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Democratic Party (APC) won the Ekiti state gubernatorial elections.
The former minister defeated Professor Olusola Eleka, the current deputy governor of Ekiti state and the anointed candidate of Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The anti-graft agency filed the N1.3bn fraud case against Fayose in 2005. The case led to his impeachment from office in 2006.
Investigations by the anti-graft body revealed that between December 2003 and December 2005, Fayose, without due process, engaged Biological Concept, managed by one Gbenga James, his personal friend, on the integrated poultry farm in the State.
Through this project, the sum of N855 million was withdrawn from the account of the state government.
The EFCC has deleted the tweet, apparently because it was accused of being partisan.

Buhari Congratulates Gov-Elect Fayemi

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Dr. Kayode Fayemi on winning the Ekiti State governorship election.
The President, in a statement by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media Publicity, also commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its supporters for the hard-fought victory after a dignified campaign.
“President Buhari urges the governor-elect and APC members to be magnanimous in victory as the incoming administration prepares to unfold a new lease of life for the people of Ekiti State through purposeful and responsible governance,” the statement read.
“He commends the people of the State for their matured and peaceful conduct as they made their choice using the power of the ballot.
“President Buhari also lauds the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adequate preparations and displaying impartiality throughout the process.
“He applauds the security agencies for creating the right atmosphere for the relatively peaceful conduct of the polls and urges them to sustain the peace.
“He also commends local and international observers and monitors for their vigilance and contributions towards the relatively hitch-free exercise.
“The President urges the losers to be gallant in conceding defeat and use constitutional means to settle whatever grievances they may have rather than resort to self-help.
“President Buhari appeals to all stakeholders in Ekiti State to work towards a successful transition to a new administration in the higher interest of not only the State but the entire nation and its fledgling democratic experience.
“In all this, the people of Ekiti State have spoken loud and clear, and democracy has won again.”

PDP Rejects Ekiti Election Results

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday describing the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a daylight robbery.
It further described the election as “electoral banditry,” saying the exercise should be cancelled.
The party also rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the declared winner of the poll, saying the results declared by the INEC were different from those obtained by its agents at the various polling units in the 16 Local Government Areas in the state.
The PDP also said should there be any breakdown of law and order in the state as a result of the exercise, President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC and security agencies should be held responsible, adding that the trio aided the “subversion of the will of the people.”
Ologbondiyan said the party would set up a committee to determine the next course of action, even as he vowed that “nobody, no matter how highly placed,” can cage the PDP.

Fayemi Wins, Defeats Fayose In Ekiti 2018 Guber

Kayode Fayemi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been announced winner of the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti state.

He was victorious in 12 out of the 16 local government areas of the state, polling 197,459 votes, and edging out his closest rival, Kolapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had 178,121 votes, leaving a margin of 19,338.

Based on the votes secured, INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the election, Professor Idowu Olayinka, declared Fayemi the winner on Sunday morning.

Unlike the last governorship election in the state when he lost in all the 16 local government areas to incumbent Ayodele Fayose, Fayemi secured victory in 12 local government areas, leaving Olusola with four LGAs.

The collation of results at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti began around 2:30 am on Sunday with after an address by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor AbdulGaniy Raji.

Voting in the keenly contested governorship election had ended in most polling units in the state by 2 pm on Saturday after which sorting of ballots and collation of results took place at the polling unit and local government level.

The election was a 2-way race between Fayemi, a former Governor of the State and Olusola, who is also the current Deputy Governor of the state fully backed by his boss, Fayose.

Although over 30 candidates contested in the election, it was a two-horse race between Fayemi and Olusola.

35 political parties participated in the election across 2,195 polling units in 16 local government areas.
